About Ripple USD (RLUSD)

What Is Ripple USD (RLUSD)?

Ripple USD (RLUSD) is a United States dollar–pegged stablecoin created by Ripple, the company best known for developing the XRP Ledger and the digital asset XRP. Launched in December 2024, each RLUSD token maintains a fixed value of one U.S. dollar, backed by an equivalent amount of cash or cash-equivalent reserves such as short-term U.S. Treasuries. This structure aims to provide stability for transactions, trading, and payments, reducing the volatility common in many cryptocurrencies.

The stablecoin is issued by Standard Custody & Trust Company, LLC (SCTC), a Ripple subsidiary regulated by the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS). This regulatory oversight includes strict compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) standards, placing RLUSD in the category of regulated digital assets. Ripple launched RLUSD in late 2024 as part of its effort to expand its role in cross-border payments and digital finance.

Available on both the XRP Ledger (XRPL) and the Ethereum blockchain, RLUSD offers interoperability between two widely used blockchain ecosystems. On XRPL, RLUSD benefits from fast settlement and low transaction fees, while on Ethereum it functions as an ERC-20 token, allowing integration with a broad range of decentralized finance (DeFi) applications.

How Ripple USD Works

RLUSD operates as a fiat-backed stablecoin with a 1:1 reserve model. For every RLUSD token issued, an equivalent value in U.S. dollars or approved low-risk assets is held in segregated reserves at U.S.-based financial institutions. Independent certified public accountants conduct monthly attestations to verify the accuracy of these reserves. Public reports provide transparency on circulating supply, reserves, and token issuance or redemption.

On the XRP Ledger, RLUSD is implemented as an issued currency, enabling rapid and inexpensive transactions suitable for cross-border payments, remittances, and institutional settlements. On Ethereum, RLUSD follows the ERC-20 token standard, making it compatible with decentralized exchanges, lending protocols, and other smart contract–based services. This multi-chain approach gives users flexibility in choosing their preferred environment for storage, transfers, and integration.

RLUSD can be held in both custodial and non-custodial crypto wallets. Custodial wallets are managed by a third party, offering account recovery options and customer support but with less privacy. Non-custodial wallets give users full control over their private keys, increasing privacy and independence but requiring greater responsibility for security. The stablecoin is supported by a growing list of centralized exchanges, decentralized exchanges, and on/off-ramp providers.

Is Ripple USD Safe?

Several factors contribute to RLUSD’s security and reliability. First, SCTC’s NYDFS charter requires compliance with established U.S. financial regulations, offering a legal framework for operations. Second, the backing reserves consist of cash and high-quality liquid assets held at reputable institutions, with regular third-party attestations providing public proof of coverage. This reduces the risk of under-collateralization.

In addition, RLUSD smart contracts on Ethereum undergo independent audits to ensure they meet industry security standards. Ripple also maintains certifications such as SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001, along with an active Threat and Vulnerability Management program. Users, however, must still follow best practices for digital asset storage. The safety of RLUSD in practice depends not only on its reserve model and compliance measures but also on the wallet security and operational practices of the holder.

Conclusion

Ripple USD (RLUSD) combines the stability of a fiat-backed digital currency with the versatility of blockchain technology. Its dual presence on the XRP Ledger and Ethereum allows for both fast, low-cost settlements and broad DeFi integration. With regulated issuance, transparent reserve reporting, and multi-chain support, RLUSD is designed to serve individuals, businesses, and institutions seeking a reliable digital asset for payments, trading, and settlement. As with all cryptocurrencies, prospective users should evaluate both the benefits and the operational considerations before holding or transacting with RLUSD.

From Sibos Exclusion to a New York Finance Gathering An event that began outside an established banking conference now expects decision-makers from across traditional and digital finance. The blockchain infrastructure provider outlined its Swell 2026 lineup Sept. 29, tracing its origins to a gathering a decade ago. The company anticipates 1,500 participants across traditional finance, crypto, academia, and the $XRP ecosystem in New York next month. The historical account places the conference’s beginnings within a debate over blockchain’s potential role in global finance. Ripple said: “Ten years ago, shut out of Sibos, Ripple gathered a group of financial leaders to talk about what blockchain could mean for global finance.” Sibos has brought the financial community together since 1978, providing the historical backdrop to that account. This year’s format combines the Swell conference with Apex, the summit for $XRP Ledger developers, institutions, and investors. The $XRP Ledger is the public blockchain whose native cryptocurrency is $XRP. UBRI Connect, the academic conference of Ripple’s University Blockchain Research Initiative, joins them for the first time. The three-day New York gathering runs Oct. 27-29 at The Shed in Manhattan, with more than 100 speakers, over 80 sessions, and three stages. $XRP ETFs and Bank Adoption Move Into Focus The institutional program examines how digital assets are transforming the businesses of banks, asset managers, and fintech companies. Its $XRP ETF and settlement discussions include the first year of spot $XRP exchange-traded funds, which provide exposure to the cryptocurrency through exchange-listed shares. Other sessions address artificial intelligence (AI) systems that move money and requirements for bringing digital assets into bank-grade production. The speaker roster connects executives responsible for market infrastructure with leaders expanding access to digital assets through trading platforms. Swell participants from BNY and Robinhood include the bank’s Global Head of Markets Laide Majiyagbe and the trading platform’s Senior Vice President and General Manager of Crypto and International Johann Kerbrat. Majiyagbe speaks with electronic marketplace operator Tradeweb’s CEO Billy Hult on trading, liquidity, and settlement; Kerbrat appears with Ripple President Monica Long. Stablecoin issuance models will feature in a debate involving investment bank TD Securities Head of Digital Assets Product and Strategy Elizabeth St-Onge and payments industry leaders. Stablecoins are cryptocurrencies pegged to assets such as the U.S. dollar. Participants examine individual issuers versus collaborative consortiums, while exchange operator Intercontinental Exchange Vice President of Strategic Initiatives Michael Blaugrund addresses tokenized equities, funds, and collateral. CEO Brad Garlinghouse moderates a markets conversation with Tom Farley, chairman and CEO of crypto exchange Bullish (NYSE: BLSH), formerly president of the New York Stock Exchange. Water.org co-founders Matt Damon and Gary White separately examine Ripple Payments and RLUSD, its dollar stablecoin, in transfers supporting water and sanitation access. $YGG

$GRVT Singapore’s crypto activity rose 55.4% to $284 billion in the year ended June 2026, bucking a regional contraction and regaining its position as the largest crypto economy in Central and Southeast Asia and Oceania (CSAO), according to Chainalysis. Much of the growth came from institutional platform activity, which increased 94% to $60 billion, concentrated among a small number of market makers, over-the-counter trading firms, and institutional brokerages. Chainalysis said the broader CSAO crypto economy contracted 6.8% over the same period. “The growth in Singapore’s institutional platform ecosystem was very concentrated and marked by mostly high-volume activity by existing platforms rather than the dynamic entry of new services,” Chainalysis told Cointelegraph. The findings come as Singapore has been working to tighten crypto regulation while supporting tokenization, stablecoins and digital-asset settlement. Total crypto economic activity in CSAO. Source: Chainalysis In 2025, MAS required local crypto firms serving overseas clients to obtain a license or exit, a move StraitsX CEO Tianwei Liu said reduced speculative activity while leaving more institutional players, including banks and large companies, using blockchain in production. At the same time, MAS has expanded tokenization and settlement initiatives. Its BLOOM program supports trials using regulated stablecoins and tokenized bank money. On March 25, Ripple joined the initiative to test cross-border trade settlement using RLUSD. Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam drive small-value P2P activity While Singapore stood out for institutional activity, Chainalysis found growing small-value peer-to-peer (P2P) activity in the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. The three countries recorded a combined 5.4 million P2P transfers, both domestic and cross-border, worth less than $10,000 during the reporting period, representing 14.4% of the global total despite accounting for just 2.5% of the global crypto economy. More than four in five domestic P2P transfers across the three markets were below $1,000, with an average transfer size of $618, compared with $1,210 across the rest of the world. In the Philippines, the International Monetary Fund previously said authorities view crypto use as primarily driven by remittances and investment, while World Bank data show personal remittances were equivalent to 8.5% of GDP in 2025 In June, Vietnamese outlet Tuoi Tre reported that P2P trading has become an important fiat gateway because the Vietnamese dong is not widely supported in direct crypto trading pairs. In March, Reuters reported that most crypto traders in Vietnam rely on overseas exchanges, making P2P channels an important way for users to move between local bank accounts and crypto traded on those platforms. In Thailand, the country’s Securities and Exchange Commission said in September it had observed a significant increase in the volume and value of stablecoin transactions, particularly USDT. Related: Singapore weighs recognizing some foreign-issued stablecoins Meanwhile, cross-border stablecoin use is on the rise. Chainalysis said cross-border stablecoin activity exceeded domestic activity in every market it analyzed, with cross-border activity across the region 3.2 times larger than domestic activity. “Stablecoins account for a growing share in all three. Plausibly, the drivers of this adoption link to ease of use, speed and low transfer costs,” Chainalysis told Cointelegraph. Thailand and Vietnam hosted sizable domestic stablecoin markets, at $10.4 billion and $6.9 billion, respectively, while cross-border stablecoin activity was significantly larger than domestic activity. In the Philippines, Nichel Gaba, CEO and founder of crypto exchange PDAX, estimated that 5% to 10% of inbound remittances are settled using stablecoins, adding that major remittance companies are pursuing stablecoin settlement initiatives in the country. In July, the Bank of the Philippine Islands revealed plans for a stablecoin settlement pilot aimed at cutting the cost and processing time of overseas payments to Filipino freelancers and remote workers. $GRVT TL;DR: Sentora submitted an ARFC request to operate independent lending markets on Aave V4, sharing 50% of protocol revenue with the Aave DAO at zero operational cost to the community treasury. The initial Ethereum deployment establishes a dedicated Hub with designated Spokes, setting a deposit cap of 100 million RLUSD and a borrow cap of 90 million RLUSD. Initial borrowable assets are restricted to RLUSD, PYUSD, and OUSD, formally excluding USDC and USDT under a baseline 20% reserve factor framework. Sentora targets Aave V4 through a formal governance proposal seeking to deploy and manage independently curated lending markets on the Ethereum network, transferring 50% of protocol revenue to the Aave DAO. The initiative is posted on the official governance forum as an Aave Request for Final Comments (ARFC). If community feedback concludes favorably, the workflow will advance to a binding Snapshot vote, serving as the prerequisite step before formulating an Aave Improvement Proposal (AIP) for final on-chain execution. Sentora was formed through the corporate merger of IntoTheBlock and Trident Digital. According to the proposal text, the initiative aims to consolidate institutional liquidity strategies that currently operate fragmented across multiple decentralized venues. Under this framework, Sentora would assume end-to-end control over collateral selection, borrow caps, interest rate curves, liquidations, and price oracle integrations. Aave’s core governance retains ownership of the underlying smart contracts and final authority over structural upgrades. The DAO’s regular risk service providers will carry no binding mandate or contractual obligation to monitor these markets or triage operational incidents. Unlike the core V4 deployments activated on Ethereum in March, this Hub will operate as a segregated environment with no cross-credit facilities connected to other Aave liquidity pools. Risk architecture and operational Hub parameters Modifications intended to reduce system risk—such as tightening collateral parameters or preemptively freezing markets—can execute immediately. In contrast, any supply cap increases or modifications to interest rate models will require an enforced 48-hour on-chain timelock. This timelock mechanism does not restrict the scale of parameter increases, nor does it enforce cooldown windows between back-to-back updates. In the event of an operational dispute, the DAO cannot cancel individual queued transactions; its remediation path requires passing an AIP to revoke Sentora’s administrative manager roles. Onboarding new collateral assets will require a mandatory two-week discussion window on the governance forum. Any technical objection raised by recognized Aave service providers will immediately halt the process, escalating the decision to a binding Snapshot vote. However, external risk auditors will receive no dedicated compensation for these reviews, meaning the absence of public objections does not imply an exhaustive technical audit. The initial rollout completely excludes the highest-volume stablecoins, USDT and USDC. Lending and borrowing will be restricted to RLUSD, PYUSD, and OUSD, launching initially with RLUSD Yield, OUSD Yield, and a Bluechip Spoke, with a planned follow-on integration for PYUSD Yield. The RLUSD Yield module will feature a supply cap set at 100 million tokens and a maximum borrowing capacity of 90 million. Initial collateral assets slated for this market segment include USDe and Huma PST, with subsequent expansions targeting PRIME and mWIN. Borrowable stablecoins will implement a baseline 20% reserve factor on accrued borrow interest, a floor that Sentora may raise but cannot lower. The 50% share of these protocol proceeds will be routed directly to the Aave DAO treasury and will not represent a direct distribution to AAVE token holders or stakers. Final confirmation of the price oracle architecture for OUSD remains the primary technical milestone pending before initiating the Snapshot vote.

$BTC Autonomous AI agents using $XRP Ledger infrastructure for around-the-clock settlements have begun to favor regulated stablecoins over native crypto assets on a large scale, according to XRPL AI Hub data. According to on-chain payment activity data, an analysis of all-time highs and the 30-day trend in direct clearing settlements shows the sustained dominance of Ripple's stablecoin, while transaction volumes in the network's native cryptocurrency, $XRP, have stagnated over the past week. BlackRock's new forecast: AI agents will build the economy of the future This trend highlights the relevance of BlackRock's research note, "The Machine-Native Economy." The financial giant points to a tectonic shift: the traditional banking system, tied to human schedules, is technically unable to handle millisecond micropayments made by autonomous software. According to BlackRock, the global stablecoin market has already surpassed $300 billion, while its annual transaction volume of $11.6 trillion has turned this asset class into a basic unit of account for AI. This circulating liquidity allows machine networks to reliably run high-frequency micropayments without causing friction or systemic blockages. Robots need to purchase computing power around the clock and pay for API access, making tokenized GPUs a key raw material of the new technological order. The machines' pragmatism is explained by the nature of their programming. As Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong noted, the number of AI agents making transactions will grow exponentially, but they critically need predictable costs. Software's strict budgeting algorithms rule out volatile assets: even a change of a few percent in $XRP's price within an hour could undermine an autonomous task's financial model. By contrast, Ripple USD, pegged one-to-one to the U.S. dollar, allows algorithms to forecast costs precisely. While $XRP retains its role in interbank clearing, Ripple's digital dollar is taking the lead in the internal economy of robots on the $XRP Ledger across all time horizons.
