Can a Bank Actually Run Its Own Blockchain?
When we talk about blockchain , we usually think about public networks. Anyone can use them, transactions are visible, and applications can connect to the same network. But banks and other financial institutions have different needs. They cannot simply put every customer detail, balance, or financial transaction on a public blockchain. At the same time, they also don't want to stay completely isolated from the blockchain ecosystem. This is where Rayls Privacy Node becomes interesting. • What is a $RLS Privacy Node? A Privacy Node is basically an EVM-compatible blockchain that an institution can run and control. Instead of sharing all of its activity on a public network, an institution can run its own environment for its financial operations. It can manage things like accounts, tokenized assets and smart contracts inside the Privacy Node. The node can also run inside the institution's own environment and behind its existing security setup. For me, this is one of the more interesting parts of Rayls. It is not just adding a privacy layer to a public blockchain. It gives an institution its own blockchain environment. And because it is EVM compatible, institutions can use familiar Ethereum and Solidity-based tools instead of learning a completely different system from scratch. • Why would a bank need its own blockchain? The simple answer is control. Let's say a bank wants to create a tokenized asset. It may want to keep information about its customers and internal transactions private. Putting all of that directly on a public blockchain may not be suitable. With a Privacy Node, the bank gets a controlled environment where it can manage its own assets and transactions. There is another useful point here. Rayls describes Privacy Nodes as gasless, so institutions operating their own Privacy Node do not need to deal with gas payments for their internal transactions. This can make the setup more practical for institutional use. • But wouldn't every bank having its own blockchain create another problem? Yes. If every bank runs its own blockchain and none of them can talk to each other, we would just create another version of the same problem. This is why the connection between the different parts of Rayls is important. A Privacy Node is not meant to work as an isolated blockchain. It can connect with other institutions through Rayls Private Networks and can also connect with the Rayls Public Chain. So there are basically three layers to understand. 1. Privacy Node This is the institution's own environment. It is private and controlled by the institution. The institution can manage its accounts, assets and smart contracts there. 2. Private Network This is where multiple institutions can connect. Instead of opening everything to the public, institutions can interact in a permissioned environment. 3. Public Chain This is the public side of the ecosystem. It can connect institutional activity with the wider onchain world. So the idea is not to choose between private and public blockchain. It is about having both, with each one doing a different job. • A simple example Let's make this easier with a simple example. Imagine Bank A wants to issue a tokenized financial asset. First, it can manage that asset inside its Privacy Node. The bank can handle its own accounts, balances and smart contracts without putting all of that information on a public chain. Now Bank A wants to do business with Bank B. The two institutions can connect through a Rayls Private Network. The important information can stay within a controlled environment while the institutions still interact with each other. Later, if an asset needs to reach a wider public ecosystem, the connection to the Rayls Public Chain can be used. So the basic flow looks like this: Bank A → Privacy Node → Private Network → Bank B → Public Chain when needed That is a much more practical model for institutions than simply saying, "Put everything on a public blockchain." • Is this really different from a normal private database? I think this is an important question. A normal database can keep information private, but it does not give you the same blockchain environment for smart contracts and tokenized assets. A Rayls Privacy Node is an EVM-compatible blockchain. So an institution can build and run smart contracts and manage tokenized assets inside its own environment. This also means developers can work with familiar EVM tools and standards. So the idea is not simply to give banks a private database. It is to give them blockchain infrastructure that they can actually control. • There are already real examples This is also not only a theoretical idea. Rayls says Núclea became the first institution to run a live Rayls Privacy Node in June 2024. According to Rayls, Núclea processes around 40,000 tokenized credit receivables per month through its Privacy Node. That gives a better idea of where this technology can be used. It is not only about crypto trading. It can be used for real financial infrastructure and tokenized assets. Rayls also lists other institutional deployments, including XP Inc. and AmFi. One example is XP's USDXP stablecoin, which was launched through an XP-operated Privacy Node. Rayls reported that more than $300 million was issued during the first week of the launch. These examples make the Privacy Node concept more interesting to me. It is not just a technical feature. It can become part of how a financial institution actually operates onchain. • What about speed? Speed also matters when we are talking about financial infrastructure. Rayls says its Privacy Node is designed for high-performance institutional activity and cites more than 10,000 transactions per second for activities such as account management, token issuance and transfers. Its architecture also uses Axyl consensus, which Rayls says targets around 10,000 TPS with sub-second finality. But TPS is not everything for a bank. An institution also needs predictable execution, control, privacy and reliable settlement. So the bigger question is whether the infrastructure can provide all of these things together. • Why the three layers matter The part I find most interesting about Rayls is not only the Privacy Node. It is how the different layers connect. A bank can have its own private blockchain. Multiple banks can connect through a permissioned Private Network. And the ecosystem can still connect to a public chain when there is a reason to do so. This gives a simple structure: Private → Permissioned → Public Each layer has a different purpose. The institution gets control and privacy. Institutions can still work with each other. And the public chain can provide access to the wider onchain ecosystem. That is important because financial institutions don't only need privacy. They also need interoperability and access to wider markets. • Final thoughts So, can a bank actually run its own blockchain? With the Rayls Privacy Node model, yes. But the more important part is that the bank does not have to stay isolated. It can run its own blockchain environment, connect with other institutions through Private Networks, and connect to the Public Chain when needed. For me, that is the main idea behind the Privacy Node. It is not simply a private blockchain for banks. It is a way to give institutions more control while still keeping them connected to the larger onchain ecosystem. If traditional financial institutions are going to move more assets onchain, this type of infrastructure could become an important part of that transition.

Understanding Rayls Enygma & Selective Disclosure
• INTRODUCTION Blockchain has transformed the way we think about trust. Its biggest achievement is allowing participants to agree on the same version of data without relying on a central authority. Every transaction is recorded, verified, and shared across the network, making transparency one of blockchain's defining strengths. For cryptocurrencies, this model works well. Anyone can verify a Bitcoin or Ethereum transaction without asking permission or trusting an intermediary. But enterprise finance operates differently. Banks, payment providers, corporations, and governments cannot expose sensitive financial information on a public ledger. Customer balances, supplier payments, and business relationships must remain confidential. This creates a major challenge for enterprise blockchain adoption. How can institutions benefit from blockchain while protecting confidential data? Rayls addresses this challenge through Enygma, a privacy layer built around selective disclosure. Instead of revealing everything or hiding everything Enygma focuses on sharing only the information that is necessary with authorized parties. After reading Rayls' official documentation, I found this approach particularly interesting because it aims to balance privacy, compliance, and verifiability within the same ecosystem. • THE ENTERPRISE PRIVACY PROBLEM Public blockchains are designed for transparency. Every transaction can be viewed and independently verified. For decentralized cryptocurrencies, this openness builds trust. Enterprise finance, however, has different requirements. A multinational company cannot expose supplier payments, pricing, or contract details to competitors. Similarly, banks process thousands of confidential transactions every day that cannot be made publicly visible. The challenge isn't that blockchain is too secure. It's that public blockchains are often too transparent for institutional use. Instead of asking "Can everyone see everything?", enterprise systems ask: "Who actually needs access to this information?" A regulator may need compliance records. An auditor may require transaction proof. The public, however, does not need access to confidential business data. This is where selective disclosure becomes valuable. • MOVING BEYOND "PUBLIC" OR "PRIVATE"" Privacy is often treated as a simple choice: public or private. In reality, enterprise finance requires different levels of access for different participants. Some information remains confidential. Some is shared only with regulators. Some becomes available during an audit. According to Rayls' documentation, Enygma is designed around this practical model. Instead of giving everyone the same visibility, information is disclosed based on context and authorization. Rather than exposing complete transaction details, organizations share only what is necessary for a specific purpose. This is the core idea behind selective disclosure. • UNDERSTENDING ENYGMA According to Rayls' documentation, Enygma is the privacy layer of the Rayls ecosystem, enabling confidential institutional transactions while supporting controlled disclosure when required. Its goal is not to replace transparency, but to combine privacy with verifiability. Think of airport security. Officials verify your identity without needing access to every detail of your personal life. Selective disclosure follows the same principle. Authorized parties can verify what they need, while unnecessary information remains private. For institutions handling sensitive financial data, this approach is far more practical than making every transaction publicly visible. This balance between confidentiality and verification is what makes Enygma one of the most interesting components of the $RLS ecosystem. . • HOW SELECTIVE DISCLOSURE WORKS IN PRACTICE The easiest way to understand selective disclosure is through a simple financial example. Suppose Bank A needs to settle a payment with Bank B. On a fully public blockchain, transaction activity and other metadata may be visible to network participants. For institutions, that level of exposure can reveal sensitive business information. Traditional banking works differently. Financial information is expected to remain confidential. This is where Enygma's approach becomes interesting. Instead of exposing every transaction detail to everyone, the required information can be shared with authorized parties when there is a legitimate reason to access it. For example, a regulator may need to verify compliance without needing access to every commercial detail of the transaction. The key idea is simple: "Who actually needs access to this information?" Not everyone needs to see everything. • PRIVACY DOES NOT MEAN HIDING EVERYTHING Privacy and secrecy are not the same thing. If everything is hidden, auditing becomes difficult. If everything is public, confidential business information can be exposed. Selective disclosure aims to sit between these two extremes. Organizations can keep sensitive information private while still providing the necessary evidence when verification is required. Think about a bank verifying your income for a loan. The bank needs proof of your income, but that does not mean your salary should become public information. The same principle can apply to blockchain transactions. Instead of choosing between complete privacy and complete transparency, institutions can work with controlled transparency. • WHY THIS MATTERS FOR FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS Banks have to balance two important requirements: regulatory accountability and customer confidentiality. Regulators need the ability to verify activity. Customers and businesses need their financial information protected. This is where Enygma fits into the broader Rayls ecosystem. Rather than removing transparency completely, the approach focuses on making verification possible without unnecessary exposure of confidential information. For institutions considering blockchain, solving this balance could be an important step toward practical adoption. • BEYOND BANKS The idea of selective disclosure isn't limited to banking. A manufacturer could allow an auditor to verify product information without exposing confidential supplier contracts. Healthcare organizations could prove compliance while keeping sensitive patient information protected. Government agencies also handle information that cannot simply be placed on a public ledger. The principle remains the same: Share what is necessary. Protect what isn't. • MY KEY TAKEAWAY After looking through Rayls' documentation, the part I find most interesting is that Enygma isn't simply about making blockchain private. It's about making privacy and verification work together. Instead of unrestricted visibility, the focus shifts toward controlled disclosure. That feels much more relevant for institutions, where privacy, compliance, and auditability all have to coexist. • CONCLUSION Blockchain proved that transparency can create trust. The next challenge is making that transparency practical for institutions that cannot expose everything. $RLS Enygma takes an interesting approach through selective disclosure: give the right information to the right participants when it is actually needed. For me, that's the key idea. The future of institutional blockchain may not be about making everything public. It may be about making the right information verifiable without making everything visible.
